The Making of Saltburn

Linus Sandgren, FSF, ASC brings viewers inside the gothic visuals of Saltburn, written and directed by Emerald Fennell.

“I always want the film to tell me what it needs,” says cinematographer Linus Sandgren, FSF, ASC. In the case of writer-director Emerald Fennell’s feature Saltburn, Sandgren and Fennell were drawn to shooting on 35mm film with spherical Primo lenses, framing for the 1.33:1 aspect ratio. Sandgren recently sat down with Panavision to discuss the creative conversations that led to Saltburn’s visual language, the inspiration he and his collaborators found in baroque painting and the gothic storytelling tradition, and much more.
